US AWARD - Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony, New York City NY
Elton John is inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Axl Rose (of Guns & Roses) gave Elton's induction speech, saying: "Nobody has been there more for inspiration than Elton John."
Elton called up Bernie Taupin and said, "Without him, I couldn't be here."
Elton John, and all other inductees, are featured at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame web site.
He is featured on the above songs during the all-star jam session that occurs each year. Elton did not participate in the jam or on any other songs played by the other inductees: Eric Clapton: White Room and Crossroads; Neil Young: Rockin' In The Free World and Mother Earth; Bob Dylan: Like A Rolling Stone and Knocking On Heavens Door; The Kinks: Lola and You Really Got Me; Led Zeppelin: Trampled Underfoot and Achilles Last Stand.

The Elton John performances (tracks 10, 11 & 12) have alternate lyrics from the soundtrack versions.

21 date American Face To Face Tour with Billy Joel. The first show is July 8 in Philadelphia PA and the last in Orlando FL on August 21. The tour was Billy Joel's idea, and he approached Elton with it. The shows opened with them performing together, then each did a set with their own band (alternating opening and closing sets) and ending with a two band jam. Elton performed Joel's New York State Of Mind during his set and Billy sang Elton's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (which he later released as a live B-side).

Tim Joseph wrote this essay for the liner notes.
Liner acknowledgements:
rpm would like to thank the many Elton John fans who have researched this material over the years (with attics groaning under the weight of hundreds of England's Top 12 albums as their only reward!), in particular Pete Thomas for his work on this compilation, sound restoration, and loan of sleeves, and to Brendon Glover and Terry Siemens for their help. Also to Tim Joseph for the extra research. These are all "copycat" covers that Elton Johnrecorded in 1969 and 1970. Elton plays piano, sings lead or background vocals on all the songs. Compilation prepared by Alan McCormick of WRAP IT UP. Later renamed Chartbusters Go Pop.
Check this entry for more information on Elton's copycat recordings.
