Had the pleasure of being at Elton's show last night (Friday 9/23/2005) at Madison Square Garden. He did Peachtree Road, Captain Fantastic and then a run of his hits. Same show as in Boston with one addition -- He added Empty Garden complete with a video tribute to John Lennon.
Three hours and 15 minutes, over 30 songs, in fine voice and thrilled as always to be at Madison Square Garden. This was his 57th show (Saturday will be 58) which makes him the performer to have the most shows ever at Madison Square Garden. Show was fabulous. And especially meaningful for me as my very first concert ever was August 15, 1976, the last show of the Louder than the Concorde tour, also at Madison Square Garden some 29 years ago. And at that show, he played much of the Captain Fantastic album, so to hear many of the same songs at the same venue, almost 3 decades later was phenomenal.
