WOW [Salt Lake City]

by Lisa Cockerton

I have just returned from seeing Elton in Salt Lake City. This was my 33rd visit with Elton but I must say, this is the best I have seen him in the last little while.

He promised us a long show and did he ever deliver. The song list included the following, (pretty much in order) Circle Of Life, Grey Seal, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Honky Cat, Tiny Dancer, Levon, Rocket Man, Daniel, I Guess Thats Why They Call It The Blues, I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That, Crocodile Rock, Roy Rogers, Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me, Your Song, Recover Your Soul, Philadelphia Freedom, Simple Life, The One, Sad Songs, Bennie And The Jets, Something About the Way You Look Tonight, The Bitch Is Back, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting. End of Regular Show. First Encore included Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and Great Balls Of Fire. Second encore he came back out wearing a ski parka (who knows why, it was at least 100 degrees in the Delta Center) and concluded with Can You Feel the Love Tonight.

His energy was great and he looked like he was having a great time. A couple of comments on the band. First, I must be Davey Johnstone's biggest fan. I mean I love the man. However, the wind machine blowing his 20-year old hairstyle back has got to go!!! I chucked a little at this on the last tour, but now his hair is really thinning. The man is wonderful, but lets lose this effect!! For those of you in England, has anyone else noticed his resemblance to Jimmy Saville?

Billy Trudeau, I think you have a great voice, but you are a little distracting in the background! The new drummer? Great drummer, but I didn't see a lot of personality. I would think this will change as he gets more used to his role in the band!

One thing, was that really Guy Babylon back with the band?

Great show. I had thought before I attended this one, it would be the last time I went to see Elton. I am growing up a bit and thought that 33 appearances were enough. However, after seeing this latest concert I think I will be adding a few more to that number. All I can say is, if he comes your way DON'T MISS IT!!!
