Hi All,
I am normally a lurker, but I thought I would post about the West Virginia show. I traveled from my home in Indiana, as I was unable to get tix for the closer shows.
This was an excellent concert. Our seats were behind the stage, but fairly high up, and the view was decent. The size of the Civic Center in Charleston is small, maybe around 12,000, so it was a nice intimate venue by Elton John's standards.
The sound was excellent, really good quality low end, a reasonable volume. Elton was dressed all in red, suit and glasses. The show was well over 2 1/2 hours. The crowd was polite, and there was no calling for Candle In The Wind. Elton did comment on the whole issue by saying that he felt he needed to address the issues in his life during the last 4 months, and then continuing by saying that instead of doing "that other song", he would do the Beth Neilson-Chapman song.
I won't go into setlists, as they basically follow what has been stated here previously.
A most pleasant surprise to me was the relaxed security. I was able to chat with a couple guys I *assumed* were guitar techs or the like. (Beside the stage, before the show). I have just released a CD of my own, and I asked one of these "techs" if he would pass a copy of my CD to Davey if I gave him one as well. He graciously agreed. Imagine my surprise when the show started and I realized these "techs" were really Guy Babylon and Bob Birch! 8-p It was great, and I was excited that my CD most likely did make it into Davey's hands.
The whole atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Who would've guessed it? But if you ever get a chance to see Elton, or anyone, in Charleston, GO!! It is a wonderful venue for avoiding the impersonal nature of the big arenas.
