Why Cash's Solitary Man should interest us
Johnny Cash is at a point in his career where he has become a
"beloved" musical performer. His appearances are presented as being a
treat from a musical icon. To name his new album after a Neil Diamond
song will be a huge promotional boost for Diamond. An icon has recognized
the quality of Neil's writing.
To me, the great irony is that while Neil was approaching the top of his
fame (1969 the period that led into Hot August Night), Cash was most known
for his recording of Shel Silverstein's novelty song "A Boy Named Sue".
Now Cash lends credibility to Diamond's work.
It *is* a strange, strange world.
